Aim of the Course
The BSc (Hons) Health & Social Science degree is aimed at students who have a broad interest in health and the social sciences but who do not wish to specialise in a single area. The degree is underpinned by a core programme in health, wellbeing, a community sport focus, sociology and social policy. A feature of this degree is the second-year work related learning module in which students will develop their employability skills. This degree enables you to explore health & social sciences whilst also gaining valuable insight into the world of work, leadership and team working. You should choose this programme if you are seeking an innovative and varied degree in health & social sciences.
The programme offers a coherent journey through health and social sciences with the opportunity for you to follow your areas of particular interest, for example in sociology or sport for inclusion modules. The application of knowledge is central to this programme with modules offering an interesting array of assessment methods from online data collection analysis and online blogs, to more traditional essays. The programme offers you to choose modules in both the second year and third year so that you can follow your own specialist interests contributing to your degree.

- International Baccalaureate: 24-25 points. Applicants should have English and Mathematics at either Higher Level grade 4, or Standard Level grade 5 as part of their Baccalaureate.

Course structure
It is a four-year course including a foundation year. The foundation year is a preparatory year aimed at building academic capabilities to undertake studies of a UK standard bachelor degree.
Year 0 (Foundation Year): students will learn academic English skills such as paraphrasing, summarising, referencing and reflective writing.
Year 1 (120 credits): The modules will comprise Making Sense of Society-the sociological imagination, Policy in Context, Sociology of Health, Wellbeing in Society, Making Sense of Society: Understanding the Social World, Policy and Strategy, Contemporary Debates, and Media, Communication and Society

Year 2 (120 credits): The modules will comprise Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods, Race Ethnicity and Migration, Ethical Issues in Health & Social Science, Gender and sexuality in Society, Employability and Professional Development, Citizenship, Community and Welfare, and Understanding the work environment.
Year 3 (the final year, 120 credits): The modules will comprise Dissertation, Ageing through the life course, Leadership and Teamwork, Disability in Mental Health and Criminal Justice system, Body Culture and Society and Global Health and Society.
ASSESSMENT
Usually, the modules will be assessed through course work submissions and classroom presentations. Some of the modules may have written examinations.
PROGRESSION
This course will create opportunities for progression to higher education or taking up employment.
