Aim of the Course

This programme is aimed at those who wish to develop a good understanding of the nature of Business Management in a world of volatility, uncertainty, change and ambiguity.  The focus of the programme is to equip students with knowledge of contemporary management theories, but of equal importance, the opportunity to apply and integrate that knowledge in live projects.  The course is ideal for students interested in developing business knowledge and management skills in any industry.

 

The main educational aims of the programme are to: 

  • Provide all students with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the core functions of business and management
  • Develop in students the intellectual skills necessary to contribute to effective business practice and problem solving
  • Develop subject related practical skills
  • Prepare students for graduate employment, research, further study and lifelong learning by developing their intellectual, practical and key (transferable) skills

 

Enhance the employability of graduates through the blend of academic study and skills development. The course aims to develop enterprise and entrepreneurial skills and offers students opportunities to link their studies with work experience, internships and study abroad.

Entry Requirements

  • Advanced GNVQ
  • International Baccalaureate: 24-25 points. Applicants should have English and Mathematics at either Higher Level grade 4, or Standard Level grade 5 as part of their Baccalaureate.
  • Successful completion of an approved Access course
  • B2 English or IELTS 6.0 with no components below 5.5

Course structure

It is a four-year course including a foundation year. The foundation year is a preparatory year aimed at building academic capabilities to undertake studies for a UK-standard bachelor’s degree.

 

Year 0 (Foundation Year), students will learn academic English skills such as paraphrasing, summarising, referencing and reflective writing.

 

Year 1 (120 credits): The modules will comprise Global Business Environment, Graduate Challenge, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Financial Decision Making, Organisational Behaviour and Statistics.

 

Year 2 (120 credits): The modules will comprise Business Consulting, Project Management, Business Economics, Operations and Service Management, and Digital Business.

 

Year 3 (final year, 120 credits): The modules will comprise Research Methods, Strategic Agility, International Marketing Management, Developing Leadership and Management Skills, Managing & Developing Innovation & Creativity, Change Management and Organisational Development, and a Dissertation.

 

ASSESSMENT

Usually, the modules will be assessed through coursework submissions and classroom presentations. Some of the modules may have written examinations.

PROGRESSION

This course will create opportunities for progression to higher education or taking up employment.
