Buckinghamshire New University Trip Highlights: Exploring Opportunities in Health, Social Care, and Beyond
On our recent university trip, students from the Health and Social Science department had the opportunity to explore the possibilities within higher education and career development. The day was engaging and inspiring, offering valuable insights that sparked excitement for the future.
The day began with a warm welcome at the Atrium, where students attended a mini open day showcasing the university’s Master’s programmes. This gave everyone a chance to learn about advanced study options available and explore areas of further education in postgraduate students. Students also had opportunities to network with other partner students across other colleges.
Next, Dr. Kevin Campbell-Karn and Dr. Nicola Shepard delivered an insightful lecture on the ever-evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. Their session highlighted the innovative ways AI is transforming both the academic and professional landscapes, especially within the health and social care fields, inspiring students to think about how technology will shape the future of their careers.
Afterward, students enjoyed a guided campus tour with the university’s Student Ambassadors. This allowed them to get a closer look at the university’s facilities and envision themselves as future students on campus. There was a tour of the library, history halls, student union and various respective departments.
The group then enjoyed a well-deserved lunch, followed by an engaging employability session run by the university’s Careers Service. This session provided valuable information about career pathways, CV building, and interview tips tailored to students pursuing careers in health and social care. It was a great opportunity for students to see the future prospects in the social care field and understand how to best prepare for it.
The day concluded with a wrap-up session, leaving students feeling inspired and motivated about their future educational and professional journeys.
This trip was an enriching experience for all involved, offering a broader perspective on academic and career aspirations, and reinforcing the exciting opportunities that await in the social care sector.
